Presidential Libraries and Museums to Visit Across the United States

 

Today is Presidents' Day, making it the perfect time of year to explore any one of the 14 Presidential Libraries and Museums across the United States. These libraries are not your every day libraries - these historic spaces house artifacts and documents of a President and his administration for the public to learn, discuss and study for years to come. From California to New York, check out the admission details, hours and everything else you need to know before you RV to any one of the Presidential Libraries. Keep in mind, COVID-19 restrictions might apply so be sure to call ahead before you go to find out details about reservations, limited hours, mask mandates and more.

 



 

HERBERT HOOVER PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Hours: 7 days a week 9 AM - 5 PM (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day)
Admission: Adults $10 | Seniors 62+, Active/Retired Military, College Students with ID $5 | Children 6-15 $3 | Under 5 Free
Details: Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum is fully wheelchair accessible and video presentations are closed-captioned for the hearing impaired. ADA service animals are allowed into the museum.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Hours: November through March 9 AM - 5 PM | April through October 9 AM - 6 PM (Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day)
Admission: The FDR Presidential Library and Museum and the home of FDR offer a joint admission of $20/person
Details: The FDR home tour is guided by a park ranger and the Library tour is self-guided.

HARRY S. TRUMAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM
Address: 500 W. U.S. Hwy 24 | Independence, Missouri 64050
Details: The Truman Library is in the middle of a massive renovation (which began July 2019). While the opening date for 2020 has yet to be released, the ambitious renovation is planned to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the start of Truman's inauguration. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM & BOYHOOD HOME

Details: The 22-acre campus (all buildings are wheelchair accessible) features a guided tour of Eisenhower's boyhood home, library with exhibits, research and photo ops, museum, statue, the final resting place of President Eisenhower, First Lady Mamie Eisenhower and their first-born son.

JOHN F. KENNEDY PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: This iconic attraction in Boston features the life of John and Jacqueline Kennedy, interactive timeline of the Civil Rights Movement, and rotating forums from discussions of "The Future of Irish Cuisine" to "Climate Change, Survival, and Deepening our Humanity."

LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: Features and Exhibitions at Johnson's Presidential Library includes historic White House telephone conversations, a replica of the Oval Office, interactive displays on the Six-Day War and Vietnam War, and a replica of Lady Bird Johnson's office with details on her environmental efforts and White House Years.

RICHARD NIXON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: Located on nine acres on the site of President Nixon's birthplace, this library and museum also include President Nixon's helicopter as well as 22 unique spaces that include but are not limited to 70 family-friendly exhibits with over 300 original artifacts, 11 original films, 8,000 square feet of wall murals and over 600 photographs.

GERALD R. FORD PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY

Details: The Gerald R. Ford Library features a variety of special events, speakers, book signings, forums, educational workshops and more throughout the year. A timeline exhibit on the lives of Gerald and Betty Ford is one of the library's permanent exhibits.

JIMMY CARTER PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: The grounds are comprised of 35 acres that were designed by Japanese master gardener, Kinsaku Nakane, and the library features roughly 27 million pages of Jimmy Carter's White House material as well as 1/2 million photographs.

RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: The Reagan Library features exhibits, special events and educational programs in addition to a replica of the Oval Office and dozens of interactive displays, as well as Air Force One!

GEORGE H.W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: The library and museum feature a World War II Avenger Torpedo Bomber, 1947 Studebaker, slab of the Berlin Wall, replicas of President Bush's Camp David and Situation Room and so much more.

WILLIAM J. CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: The Clinton Presidential Library and Museum is actually located within the Clinton Presidential Center and Park which includes the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service and the Clinton Foundation. The museum includes replicas of the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, a timeline and alcoves highlighting domestic and foreign policy as well as special events, education programs and rotating exhibits.

GEORGE W. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: Located on the campus of SMU, the library features a 20-foot-tall, 360-degree high-def video wall, replica of the Oval Office, interactive educational experiences for students as well as 43,000 artifacts which include but are not limited to exhibit display steel from the World Trade Center.

BARACK OBAMA PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

Details: The Barack Obama Presidential Library is the first fully digital presidential library. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and the Obama Foundation will work together to digitize the unclassified textual Presidential records to create a digital archive.
