Fall foliage? Check. An endless open road? You bet. Social distancing that doesn't keep you from experiencing the outdoors? 100%. Colorado is always impressive, be it during the winter months when champagne powder graces the mountain tops or in the summer when wildflowers are blooming.

Fall is a special season for the Rockies, and with reason. There is endless adventure and incredible vistas to take in, all under a blanket of the most vibrant yellows, reds, and oranges you'll ever see. Best of all, it's the ideal season for RVers to make their way to the state because roads are still drivable (thanks to no snowfall) and the summer heat is in the rearview mirror. Below we've outlined 10 reasons to make your way in your RV to colorful Colorado before autumn ends.

 



 

1. FALL FOLIAGE
What might be the most alluring reason to visit Colorado in the fall is the desire to catch the changing Aspen leaves. While there is no way to predict when the leaves will be at their optimal viewing experience, if you and your RV are in the state from mid-September to late-October, you are sure to feast your eyes on some incredible colors in nature. 2. OUTDOOR RECREATION
Colorado could very well be renamed, "the state that never sits down." If you're an RVer who seeks outdoor recreation, this is your mecca. From dirt biking to mountain biking, climbing, hiking, trail running, paddleboarding, kayaking, waterskiing, and fishing, Colorado's terrain was made for it all. We highly recommend mountain biking in Fruita, Colorado. The area is known for its excellent mountain bike trails, ranging from easy to advance. 3. SCENIC VISTAS AND HIGHWAYS
There are dozens of jaw-dropping highways and byways throughout Colorado that are riddled with scenic vistas. These drives are so picture-perfect, one could almost believe they were strictly made for RVs. Of the many beautiful drives our favorites and the ones we agree you absolutely cannot miss are:

There are so many wonderful RV campgrounds across the state of Colorado. With stunning national parks, state parks, and local attractions at every turn, be unsurprised if you find yourself drooling over your campsite vista at nearly every park you visit. Some of our favorites include:

5. FREE CAMPGROUNDS
If you're more of the free campground kind of RVer, Colorado might as well have been made for you. Tell me, who doesn't want to frolic under a canopy of golden yellow leaves? While there are too many hikes to name, really, the list would be in the hundreds, we did some research and found some of the best fall hikes in Colorado during fall 2020. Make your way to these incredible spots ASAP!

7. EPIC NIGHT SKY
Are you an avid stargazer? Go to Colorado. With numerous state and national parks, there are so many spots to see the natural sky without the interruption of city lights. 8. AMAZING FALL WEATHER
Looking to sip your coffee in sweater weather? You've come to the right state. The closer you are to the mountains, the colder the temperature will be, no matter what time of year in Colorado. This knowledge is great to have when traveling throughout the state. While some parts of the state like Denver for instance, will experience highs of 70 and lows in the 30s during the month of October, other locations like Steamboat Springs will hover between the high 50s and high 20s. You can adjust your travel destinations depending on which type of weather you prefer to RV in. The good news is that winter is still a ways away, and your RV should have no trouble regulating in the fall temperatures or driving on snowless road.


 



 

9. LESS CROWDED SEASON
Winter brings the flocks of skiers and snowboarders as well as holiday vacationers and summer calls for those on school vacation, 4th of July holiday, and those who live by an endless summer mentality, but fall is perfect for dodging crowds. While kids and college students are still in school, fall is the season in which many find themselves unable to travel. RVers, especially those who are full-time have nothing but the road ahead of them. October and November are excellent months to enjoy this incredible state for all its worth without pushing through endless crowds to do so.


 



 

10. ROAD TRIPS GALORE
You could spend a year traversing Colorado and still not see everything it has to offer. The state is arguably one of the most road trip-able in the entire USA. With winding mountain roads, hundreds of mountain peaks, trails and rivers, one will surely never tire of seeing endless beauty. Every corner of Colorado has something grand to offer - from the Great Sand Dunes to San Juan National Forest, and Pawnee National Grassland. Not to mention, the wildlife is unlike that of any other state. Where else in America can you go to see mountain lions, black bears, bison, bighorn sheep, elk, and over 400 species of birds?
